European Champion Clubs' Cup 1990/91
Wembley Stadium in London

The 1991/92 European Cup was the 37th and last playout of the competition under this name, because in the following season the competition was renamed the Champions League . 32 club teams took part, including 31 national champions from the previous season and Red Star Belgrade as defending champions and national champions of Yugoslavia. The Wembley Stadium was on 20 May 1992 venue of the final match.

For the first time after the Heysel disaster in 1985, an English team took part in the competition. The five-year suspension of the English clubs had already expired in the 1990/91 season , but Liverpool FC was not yet allowed to start as champions due to their seven-year suspension last year.

mode

The participants played eight teams in two rounds for participation in the first group stage with two groups and four teams each. The two group winners played the final among themselves. In the case of a tie, the higher number of goals scored away counted first; if there was also a tie, the second leg was extended and, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out was played immediately afterwards .

1 round

The first leg took place on 17./18. September, the second leg took place on October 2, 1991.
