Albert Ferrer Llopis (born June 6, 1970 in Barcelona ), called Chapi , is a Spanish football coach and former football player .
The right-back played mainly for FC Barcelona and Chelsea .
career
Albert Ferrer began his professional career in 1988 with the FC Barcelona B team. A year later he was loaned to CD Tenerife , where he played his first 17 games in the Primera División in the 1989/90 season .
From 1990 onwards, Ferrer played in the first team of FC Barcelona for eight years. During this time he played 204 league games and helped his club to numerous titles. Among other things, the team won the Spanish championship five times, the national cup twice and the European Champion's Cup in 1992 . Ferrer was considered one of the most important players in the so-called dream team .
From 1998 to 2003 Ferrer was under contract with English first division club Chelsea, after which he ended his career. With the Blues he won the FA Cup in 2000 .
In the Spanish national team Ferrer was active from 1991 to 1999 and played 36 internationals. He took part in the World Championships in 1994 in the USA and in 1998 in France . He also represented Spain at the 1992 Summer Olympics .
Ferrer worked as a coach in the youth division of FC Barcelona before the Dutch honorary division Vitesse Arnheim presented him as the new head coach on October 28, 2010 . Since the success failed to materialize - Vitesse avoided the relegation games in the Eredivisie only because of the slightly better goal difference compared to Excelsior Rotterdam - Ferrer's contract was not extended at the end of the season.
