José Ramón Alexanko Ventosa (born May 5, 1956 in Barakaldo ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career as a player

Alexanko started his football career at Llodio, a small suburb of Bilbao . In 1974 he came to Athletic Bilbao and stayed for two years. In the 1976/77 season he made a detour to Deportivo Alavés in order to return to Bilbao. During his time in Bilbao, he reached the Spanish Cup final in 1977 and the UEFA Cup final in the same year, but the Athletic lost to Juventus Turin with a total score of 2-2 (away goals rule).

In 1980 the Basques moved to Catalonia to join FC Barcelona . Alexanko had his most successful time at Barça. He won the Spanish championship four times, the Spanish Cup four times and the Spanish Supercup three times. At the international level, he won the last European Cup in 1992 before the introduction of the Champions League in the same year. In the final against Sampdoria Genoa , Alexanko came on in the 113th minute for Pep Guardiola . The game ended 1-0 after extra time for Barça. He also won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1982 and 1989 , where he played through in the 1982 final. In 1992 the European Supercup was won.

Internationally, Alexanko played 34 times for Spain and scored four goals. He took part in the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy , where Spain was eliminated from the group bottom in the preliminary round. He also took part in the 1982 World Cup in his own country, where the team was eliminated in the second group phase.

Alexanko also played a game for the Basque football team .

Career as a coach

After his playing career, Alexanko went to Romania and trained there FC Universitatea Craiova and FC Național Bucharest .
