FC Universitatea Craiova was a Romanian football club based in Craiova .

history

The club was founded in 1948 as a sports club under the name CSU Craiova . In 1950 the name was changed to Știința Craiova . Further name changes took place in 1966 ( CS Universitatea Craiova based on the University of Craiova ) and in 1992 after the football department was split off to the current name FC Universitatea Craiova . The traditional southern Romanian club was a four-time Romanian champion and six-time Romanian cup winner. Until the 2007/08 season he was the last club not from Bucharest to win the Romanian championship (1990/91 season).

After his relegation from the top Romanian league ( Divizia A ) in the 2004/05 season , Adrian Mititelu was the new patron of the club in July 2005, who played one season in Divizia B and managed the direct promotion.

On April 21, 2007 Florin Cioroianu was the new coach of the team, who get six wins and one draw in the last seven games of the 2006/07 season . After the home defeat against Unirea Urziceni on the fifth day of the 2007/08 season , coach Cioroianu resigned on August 25, 2007. The previous assistant coach Daniel Mogoșanu took over the training of the team on an interim basis. On August 29, 2007, Ovidiu Stîngă was presented as the new coach, but on September 18, 2007 after only two league games, the defeats against Rapid Bucharest and UTA Arad , dissolved again. Daniel Mogoșanu stepped in a second time as head coach until the Italian Nicolò Napoli took up his second term in Craiova after 2004 on October 9, 2007 . On May 16, 2009 Napoli was sacked and replaced by his previous assistant coach Ionel Gane .

The coaching carousel continued to turn in the new 2009/10 season . After just seven match days, the contract with Daniel Mogoşanu was terminated and a new one was concluded with Eugen Neagoe . In January 2010, the Dutchman Mark Wotte took over the team's coach, but was suspended after the home defeat on May 1, 2010 against Internațional Curtea de Argeş . In the following league game against Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț sat midfielder Eugen Trică in the dugout, on May 10, 2010, in the home defeat against CFR Cluj , it was George Biță and for the last two games of the season Laurențiu Reghecampf , who was there on May 14, 2010 Had given up his position as sports director at FC Snagov . From June 25, 2010 Aurel Țicleanu trained the team. After only five games, however, he was dismissed and replaced on August 26, 2010 by Eugen Neagoe. At the same time, Victor Pițurcă took over the office of general manager in the association. On January 11, 2011, the contracts with Pițurcă, Neagoe and other supervisors were terminated. Aurel Țicleanu and Nicolò Napoli were brought back as president and coach. After Universitatea had slipped further in the table, coach Napoli was replaced on April 4, 2011 by Laurențiu Reghecampf. This was removed from office by Mititelu on May 1, 2011 and replaced by Aurel Țicleanu, the president of the association. After only one championship game, Țicleanu withdrew completely from the club on May 7, 2011, Marian Iancu took over the presidency on May 11, 2011 and George Biă was the new coach. This could no longer prevent the sporting descent at the end of the season, whereupon on July 4, 2011 the previous team captain Dorel Stoica was appointed as the new head coach.

On July 20, 2011, FC Universitatea Craiova was provisionally excluded from the Romanian Football Association due to numerous violations of the association's statutes.

In 2014, the association was dissolved due to bankruptcy following a court decision.

Stadion

The club played its home games at the Ion Oblemenco Stadium . After a dispute with the mayor of Craiova, Adrian Mititelu, the club's patron, moved the home games between January 31, 2010 and August 3, 2010 to Drobeta Turnu Severin . The attempt to reverse this decision failed in July 2010 and led to the resignation of President Ion Geolgău . Only on the fourth day of the 2010/11 season did the club return to Craiova.
