Dumitru Marcu (born April 9, 1950 in Drăghiceni ) is a former Romanian football player and coach . He played a total of 283 games in the Divizia A . In 1974 and 1980 the striker won the Romanian championship with Universitatea Craiova .

Career

Born out of the youth of CFR Caracal, Marcu moved to Steaua Bucharest in 1970 . There it was only used irregularly. In early 1972 he joined Universitatea Craiova . There he immediately became a regular in the storm. With the championship in 1974 he won his first title. After the two cup wins in 1977 and 1978 , he only came to one use in the 1979/80 season , but was able to celebrate his second championship. He left the club to Mecanica Fina Bucharest in the Divizia B . In the summer of 1981 he returned to Steaua, but moved back to Mecanica Fină after only seven assignments in the summer of 1982.

In 1984 Marcu made another attempt in Divizia A , where Gloria Buzau signed him . After relegation in 1987 , he ended his career.

National team

Marcu played 16 games for the Romanian national team . He made his debut on April 23, 1972 in the friendly against Peru , when he came on at half-time for Radu Jercan and scored the goal to make it 2-2. After another use in the friendly against Austria on September 3, 1972, he was consistently a member of the national team in 1973. In qualifying for the 1974 World Cup , he and his team had to give way to the GDR . In the final qualifier against Finland , he scored two goals in a 9-0 win.

On September 25, 1974 Marcu came in the friendly against Bulgaria for his last time. In the following European Championship qualification he was not considered by national coach Valentin Stănescu . It was not until May 1978 that he returned to the national team. First he was used in the Balkan Cup and in friendly matches. On April 4, 1979, he played his last international match in the European Championship qualifier against Spain .
