Nicolae Tilihoi (born August 9, 1956 in Brăila ; † March 25, 2018 ) was a Romanian football player . The defender denied 290 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career

Tilihoi began his career in his hometown of Braila in Progresul Braila in Divizia B . After both 1975 and 1976 as runner-up just missed promotion to Divizia A , he joined the Romanian top club FC Universitatea Craiova . At Uni Craiova he developed into a regular player in his first season. After two cup wins in 1977 and 1978 , he won two championships with the club in 1980 and 1981 . But he achieved his greatest success in 1983, when the club reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup and were only eliminated there because of the away goals rule against Benfica Lisbon .

After he was hardly used in the 1986/87 , Tilihoi left the club and played a year for Metalul Bocșa in Divizia B before ending his career.

National team

Nicolae Tilihoi played ten games for the Romanian national football team . He made his debut on March 21, 1979 in the friendly against Greece . From October 1979 to April 1980 he was a regular under national coach Constantin Cernăianu , before the new national coach Valentin Stănescu no longer considered him. On May 13, 1981 he came in the World Cup qualifier against Hungary for his last international match.
