Divizia A 1971/72

The Divizia A 1972/73 was the 35th season in the history of the Romanian football league Divizia A. It started on August 20, 1972 and ended on June 24, 1973 . Games were closed from mid-December to early March ( winter break ).

Champion Dinamo Bucharest . The team secured the title with a 4-0 catch-up game against CFR Cluj, while the leading team from Universitatea Craiova lost their last game at UT Arad with 0-1 and thus lost their first championship title.

The 16 teams played against each other twice on 30 match days. While there were two promoted teams, no team was relegated to Divizia B , as the league was increased to 18 teams for the following season. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, the goal difference decided .
