Divizia A 2001/02

The Divizia A 2002/03 was the 65th season in the history of the Romanian football league . It started on August 17, 2002 and ended on May 28, 2003 . Games were closed from mid-December to early March ( winter break ). Champion was Rapid Bucharest .

The Divizia A played with 16 teams. The two last-placed teams got into the Divizia B from. The teams in places 13 and 14 wore relegation games against the two runners-up of the two groups in Divizia B to stay in Divizia A. There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, it was not the goal difference that decided , but the direct comparison.

    1The owner of AEK Bucharest, Anton Doboş , moved his club to Timişoara, as there were hardly any spectators due to the great competition in Bucharest. In order to arouse the audience's interest in Timișoara, he named the club after the traditional association Politehnica Timișoara in Politehnica AEK, which used to be based there .

    Politehnica AEK Timișoara stayed in Divizia A, while FC Oradea rose from Divizia B. Although Oțelul Galați was defeated in the relegation games, the club was allowed to remain in Divizia A, since SC Astra Ploieşti merged with promoted Petrolul Ploieşti .

    Sportul Studențesc Bucharest was sentenced by the Romanian Football League that starting March 18, 2002, a point is deducted every seven days until the transfer fee for Florin Sandu Maxim in the amount of 150,000  US dollars is paid to Steaua Bucharest . After Sportul objected, this penalty was lifted because Sportul was waiting for a transfer of $ 200,000 from the Bulgarian club Litex Lovetsch for the transfer of Bogdan Aurelian Pătraşcu .
