1st deild 2002

The Faroese Football Championship 2003 was played in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was overall the 61st season. It started on May 16, 2003 and ended on October 5, 2003.

Promoted FS Vágar returned to the top division after a year. Champion was defending champion HB Tórshavn , who could win the title for the 17th time. However, FS Vágar had to relegate after a year of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.14 per game, which was the lowest average since 1993 . The biggest win achieved KÍ Klaksvík with a 7-0 in the home game against Skála ÍF on matchday 15. The highest-scoring games came with a 7-1 between B36 Tórshavn and KÍ Klaksvík on matchday six and 4: 4 between GÍ Gøta and EB / Streymur on matchday 16.

mode

In the 1st Deild , each team played twice against each other on 18 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was the champions of this league, the last team was relegated to the 2nd Deild , in the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided. The ninth placed also had to play two relegation games against the runner-up of the 2nd Deild to stay in the 1st Deild .

Season course

Championship decision

On the first match days, HB Tórshavn commuted between first and second place with alternating wins and draws. From the fifth matchday onwards, the lead in the table could initially be maintained. On the eighth game day there was a duel with B36 Tórshavn , which was lost with 1: 2, whereupon the lead changed to the winner. B36 only got one point from the first three encounters and found themselves in ninth place. This was followed by seven wins in a row, but after the 3-1 defeat at EB / Streymur on matchday 11, first place had to be given back to HB Tórshavn. They showed no more nakedness and remained undefeated until the end of the season. The decision about the championship was made on the penultimate matchday. The runner-up B36 Tórshavn lost the direct duel against HB with 0: 2 and thus they were determined ahead of time as champions, as the direct comparison against the team of B68 Toftir, only three points away , spoke for HB.

Relegation battle

Skála ÍF were in last place from the start and lost their first seven games. The first win came on the eighth matchday against FS Vágar with 4-1. This was followed by another seven defeats in a row. After the 0: 7 away defeat against KÍ Klaksvík on the 15th matchday, the deficit on eight-placed VB Vágur was ten points, the relegation place was five points away. Now Skála started a series and won all three subsequent games. On the last day of the match EB / Streymur were defeated 3-2, which meant that the relegation place could be achieved. In the 50th minute, the team were down 2-1 with an own goal, before the tide could be turned with hits in the 64th and 73rd minutes.

FS Vágar had a record of two wins, one draw and three defeats after the first six games, which was enough in the table to seventh place. In the next nine games, apart from a single draw, no further points could be achieved, so that the team found itself in ninth place since the eleventh playground. It was only on the 16th match day that they won again with a 3-1 win against KÍ Klaksvík. The lead over the last placed Skála ÍF was five points at that time, in the next game both teams met. A draw would have been enough for FS Vágar to maintain their position until the end of the season, but the game was lost 3: 4 in front of a home crowd. Since the last game at NSÍ Runavík was lost 2-0 and Skála won at the same time, relegation was thus certain. In the 58th minute, FS Vágar fell behind, but even a draw would not have been enough to avoid relegation due to the direct comparison.

VB Vágur, on the other hand, who took eighth place for a while, was finally able to save themselves with a 1-0 win against B68 Toftir. The winning goal came in the 85th minute, but due to the direct comparison FS Vágar should have won a defeat by VB to be able to reach eighth place.
