The Faroe Islands Premier League in 2005 was in the Formuladeildin first mentioned Faroese played league and overall was the 63rd season. It started on March 28, 2005 and ended on October 22, 2005.

Promoted TB Tvøroyri returned to the top division after two years. Champion was B36 Tórshavn , who could win the title for the eighth time. Defending champion HB Tórshavn finished in third place. TB Tvøroyri, however, had to relegate after a year of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.21 per game. HB Tórshavn scored the highest win with a 9-0 home game against ÍF Fuglafjørður on matchday 16. The highest-scoring game completed KÍ Klaksvík and NSÍ Runavík on the last matchday, which ended 5-6.

mode

In the Formuladeildin , each team played against each other three times for the first time on 27 match days. Due to the previous year's placement, HB Tórshavn , B36 Tórshavn , Skála ÍF , KÍ Klaksvík and VB / Sumba played an additional home game. The team with the best points at the end of the season was clear as champions of this league, the last team rose to the 1st Deild , the Faroese second division. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided. The ninth placed also had to play two relegation games against the runner-up of the 1st Deild to stay in the Formuladeildin .

Season course

Championship decision

After three matchdays ÍF Fuglafjørður finished tied with KÍ Klaksvík in first place after both had two wins and one draw. Behind them with five points was Skála ÍF , who took the lead on the next match day with a 2-0 win at KÍ and the simultaneous defeat of ÍF against B36 Tórshavn . However, this only lasted one more game day, as the home game on the fifth game day was lost 0-1 against VB / Sumba . The new front runner was B36 Tórshavn after three wins in a row. However, they were never able to develop a large lead, with a maximum of two points. After a 0-0 win against TB Tvøroyri on matchday 13, HB Tórshavn briefly reached first place. Due to a 1: 2 home defeat against Skála ÍF, B36 was back in front after the next matchday. Again they could not break away, from the 15th to the 19th match day the table runner-up and sometimes even the table third were tied on points. After the 0-1 away defeat at NSÍ Runavík on matchday 20, the lead switched back to Skála ÍF, but they could not move more than three points away from the second. After three draws in a row, B36, who in turn scored four points more than Skála during this period, once again took first place. The championship was decided on the last day of the match. The top game between the first placed B36 Tórshavn and the previously runner-up HB Tórshavn won B36 with 2: 1 and was thus established as champions. After an initial deficit in the 45th minute, B36 turned the game around, the winning goal fell in the 74th minute. Skála ÍF did not get beyond a 2-2 win against GÍ Gøta , but managed to overtake HB, with Skála first taking the lead in the final minute, which was equalized a little later by GÍ.

Relegation battle

For a long time, five teams were involved in the relegation battle. TB Tvøroyri was at the bottom of the table after four matchdays, on matchday five this could be left after a 3-0 win at home against EB / Streymur . With further victories, the team climbed to fifth place on the ninth matchday, which was their highest season position. After that, however, followed a dry spell of 14 winless games in a row up to the 24th matchday, so that from the 15th matchday on the last place was consistently occupied.

GÍ Gøta lost the first three games. The fourth match was won 1-0 at VB / Sumba and the last place could be left for a game day. The next victories were celebrated between the tenth and twelfth matchday, so that an improvement to seventh place could be achieved, on matchday 15 GÍ was even sixth. This could largely be held up to the 21st matchday, but after that only defeats followed and the crash to eighth place on the 24th matchday.

VB / Sumba started the season with two wins, one draw and two defeats, and on the fifth matchday they finished fifth. After that, the team initially remained without a win, so that the end of the table was graced for the first time on the eleventh game day. Only through further victories from the 13th matchday onwards could it be placed sixth again on the 17th matchday. In the next games, however, again no victory jumped out, from the 21st matchday the team was in ninth place.

KÍ Klaksvík had a very good start to the season with two wins and one draw and the resulting second place. Until the ninth matchday, however, had to wait for the next victory, the crash to eighth followed. After two wins followed another eight defeats in a row, from the 15th matchday KÍ then occupied the relegation place. It was only on the 21st match day that it could be left again and an improvement up to sixth place was achieved.

With two wins and one more draw, ÍF Fuglafjørður was at the top of the table on the second and third matchdays. Of the next eleven games, however, only one could be won, which resulted in the fall to last place. Since the teams were very close together in the lower half of the table, sixth place was separated from the bottom of the table by only one point, and a victory on matchday 15 made it seventh. As a result, the team oscillated between sixth and eighth place.

With three games to go, ÍF Fuglafjørður was sixth, seven points ahead of last, TB Tvøroyri. They won their next game against Skála ÍF 1-0 and swapped places with VB / Sumba. GÍ Gøta remained in eighth place due to a defeat, ÍF Fuglafjørður and KÍ Klaksvík each played a draw. VB / Sumba won 2-0 at TB Tvøroyri the next day, all other teams lost their games. As a result, however, ÍF secured relegation and VB / Sumba climbed to eighth place. Thus, the decision about relegation and the relegation participant was made on the last day of the game. KÍ Klaksvík lost his last game 5-6 against NSÍ Runavík and VB / Sumba only played 1-1 against EB / Streymur, but neither GÍ Gøta (2-2 at Skála ÍF) nor promoted TB Tvøroyri (0-0 at ÍF Fuglafjørður) could take advantage of it. Thus all teams in the lower half of the table remained in their places. VB / Sumba equalized in the 52nd minute, GÍ Gøta, however, only conceded a deficit in a turbulent final phase, which could be equalized a little later. Based on the direct comparison, both VB / Sumba and GÍ Gøta would have worsened by one place if they lost.
