The Faroese Football Championship 1986 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was the 44th season overall. It started on April 26, 1986 and ended on September 14, 1986.

Promoted B36 Tórshavn returned to the top division after a year. Master was GÍ Gøta , who could win the title for the second time. Defending champion B68 Toftir finished in third place. On the other hand, B36 Tórshavn had to relegate after a year of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate improved to 3.39 per game, which was the highest average since 1979 . The highest win was achieved by GÍ Gøta in the away game against B68 Toftir on the eighth match day and HB Tórshavn in the away game against LÍF Leirvík on the eleventh match day with 6: 0. The game with the highest number of goals was on matchday 13 between B36 Tórshavn and TB Tvøroyri , which ended 7-2.

Championship decision

B68 Toftir got off to the best start with three wins from the first three games, but had to admit defeat on the fourth matchday 3 0: 3 in the away game to the direct pursuer KÍ Klaksvík , who now overtook them tied. With two defeats on the sixth and seventh game day, B68 was able to maintain the top position again. On the eighth day of the game followed the top game against the tied runner-up GÍ Gøta , which was lost 6-0 at home. Until the last match day GÍ remained undefeated and did not give up the championship lead. The decision for the championship was made on the penultimate matchday when GÍ was only one point missing, which was achieved by a 1-1 draw against LÍF Leirvík .

Relegation battle

With two exceptions, promoted B36 Tórshavn consistently took last place. On the second matchday this could be left briefly by a 1-1 home game against GÍ Gøta, the first win was only achieved on the sixth matchday with a 3-1 home win against LÍF Leirvík, who in turn won the first leg 3-0 on the first matchday could make up their minds and were therefore the first in the table, but then gradually slipped down the table. On matchday 13, B36 was able to draw level with LÍF on points by a 7-2 home win against TB Tvøroyri , while LÍF played 1-1 in the away game against GÍ Gøta. On the last day of the match LÍF Leirvík came 2-2 down after a 2-2 deficit at home against B68 Toftir. With B36 Tórshavn's 1: 4 away defeat in the derby against HB Tórshavn , the relegation of B36 was sealed.
