Effodeildin 2015

The 2016 Faroese Football Championship was the 74th season of the Faroese top football league . The league is officially called Effodeildin after its main sponsor, the energy company Effo . It started on March 5, 2016 and ended on October 22, 2016.

The promoted Skála ÍF and B68 Toftir returned after a year in the top division. Master was Víkingur Gøta , who could win the title for the first time. Defending champion B36 Tórshavn finished in fourth place. AB Argir and B68 Toftir , on the other hand, had to relegate after four and one year of first class respectively.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.13 per game. NSÍ Runavík scored the highest win with a 7-1 home game against ÍF Fuglafjørður on matchday 19, which was also the highest-scoring game, and KÍ Klaksvík with a 6-0 home match against B68 Toftir on matchday 26.

mode

In the Effodeildin , each team played against each other three times on 27 match days. Due to the previous year's placement, B36 Tórshavn , NSÍ Runavík , Víkingur Gøta , HB Tórshavn and KÍ Klaksvík played an additional home game. The team with the highest points at the end of the season was champions and took part in qualifying for the Champions League, while the last two teams had to relegate to 1. Deild , the Faroese second division.

Season course

Championship decision

B36 Tórshavn and KÍ Klaksvík each recorded seven wins and two draws from their first eleven games, Víkingur Gøta followed with six wins and four draws, closely followed by NSÍ Runavík with seven wins. After nine wins from the next ten games, KÍ was four points ahead of Víkingur, who in turn scored eight wins in the same time. NSÍ was three more points behind, while B36 fell far behind with five consecutive games without a win. On Matchday 22, KÍ lost 2-0 away to NSÍ and Víkingur came up to one point at the top of the table. On the next day of play there was a direct duel, which the first place winner won with a 2-1 win over the runner-up and thus increased the table lead to four points again. With a 2-2 home game against B36 and a 1-3 away defeat at AB Argir , Víkingur Gøta could overtake KÍ Klaksvík. Since both teams could win their last two games, this table constellation remained.

Relegation battle

B68 Toftir started the season with two draws, but couldn't win a single game. AB Argir had to wait until matchday 11 for their first win when TB Tvøroyri were defeated 3-2 at home . When on the 23rd matchday the ninth placed AB Argir lost against the eighth placed Skála ÍF with 0-2, the relegation of B68 was already certain. AB, however, won the next two games and was able to reduce the gap to Skála to six points with two games left. After the 1: 4 away defeat against NSÍ Runavík on the penultimate match day, the second relegated team was determined.
