Effo P / F [ ˈɛfo ] like "FO" for Faroese Føroya Orkufelag ("Faroese Energy Company ") is a Faroese oil company based in Tórshavn .
Services
Effo sells motor oils and fuels for private and business customers. The company offers oil products for Faroese and foreign ships in the Faroe Islands, for aircraft, companies and public institutions. It operates petrol stations across the country where the company also sells groceries under the name "Fast". About 200 employees work for Effo.
history
Effo previously operated under the foreign name Statoil , previously also under the name Esso . It was the so-called “stair brothers” Haraldsen in Tórshavn who began to import and sell oil together in the early 20th century. The oil was imported in wooden barrels, the first depot was in Kollafjørður . One of the brothers, Harald Haraldsen, founded a agency for the Danish company Det Danske Petroleums Aktieselskab (DDPA) in 1918 . The first oil tanker reached Tórshavn in 1935 when Valdemar Lutzen was representing the DDPA. In 1949 Esmar Fuglø united Føroysk Oljusøla (Faroese oil trade) with DDPA, which remained part of the Esso oil company.
In the 1950s there were big developments in Faroese companies and the oil company expanded its collaborations, buying an oil ship and building gas stations under the name Esso. In 1987 the company changed its name to Statoil and remained part of it in 1998 as Føroya Oljufelag . In 2007 the Faroese bought part of Statoil from the Norwegians and the company changed its name to Effo . The name alludes to the letters FO, the abbreviation of Føroya Orkufelag , and at the same time the letters are also the international abbreviation for the Faroe Islands. B. used as the ending of Faroese Internet addresses .
