The Faroese Football Championship 2000 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was overall the 58th season. It started on April 24, 2000 and ended on September 30, 2000.

Promoted FS Vágar returned to the top division after two years. Champion became VB Vágur , who could win the title for the first time. Defending champion KÍ Klaksvík ended up in fifth place. On the other hand, SÍ Sumba had to relegate after three years of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate improved to 4.01 per game, which after 1998 and 1976 meant the third highest average since the introduction of the 1st Deild . The biggest win was achieved by B36 Tórshavn with a 11-1 home game against SÍ Sumba on matchday four. This was also the highest scoring game.

mode

In the 1st Deild , each team played twice against each other on 18 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was clear as champions of this league, the last team relegated to the 2nd Deild . The ninth placed also had to play two relegation games against the runner-up of the 2nd Deild to stay in the 1st Deild .

Season course

Championship decision

The first championship leader was B36 Tórshavn . After five wins in a row, it was their first defeat against KÍ Klaksvík 2-1 at home. From the eighth game day on, B36 suffered four defeats in a row, from the ninth game day HB Tórshavn , who had only suffered one defeat up to this point, was at the top, while the local rival was passed through to fourth place. After HB lost 5-2 at home to NSÍ Runavík on matchday 12 , the lead changed to VB Vágur . However, this only lasted for a short time, as VB lost 4-0 at NSÍ on the next match day. On matchday 14, B68 Toftir and HB Tórshavn were tied at the top, on the next two matchdays HB was again sole leader. With a 1-1 draw at B68, however, this was lost again and VB Vágur came back to first place with a 3-2 draw at GÍ Gøta . They didn’t give this up either. The championship was decided on the last day of the match. Because both the second placed HB Tórshavn, who fell behind in the 3-1 away win against SÍ Sumba in the 19th minute, but were able to turn it before the break, and VB Vágur, who were victorious 2-1 at B36 Tórshavn and their lead achieved in the 18th minute no longer gave up, their games could win, it stayed with this table constellation.

Relegation battle

SÍ Sumba was already at the bottom of the table on the second match day, the first four games were all lost. With two 1-0 successes against FS Vágar and B71 Sandur , they temporarily climbed to seventh place, which they lost again due to a series of further defeats and slipped again to last place. On matchday 14, FS Vágar was defeated 2-0 away, so that both teams swapped places. From the last four games, however, there was only one draw, so that in the end they returned to the bottom of the table. On the last day of the match a victory would have had to be achieved in order to be able to leave it, which was undone by a 1: 3 defeat against HB Tórshavn. After the 1-0 lead by Aleksandar Tomajek , HB turned the game before the break.

FS Vágar was in the last three places for the entire season. After two draws and five defeats from the first seven games, the first win came with a 2-0 win over GÍ Gøta. The jump to ninth place was only completed with another win on matchday ten. Five defeats in a row let FS Vágar swap places with SÍ Sumba. On the 16th matchday a 2-1 win against B71 Sandur succeeded, so that the penultimate place was again occupied. The team was able to hold onto this until the end of the season despite a 4-5 defeat on the last match day, with FS Vágar falling behind in this game in the fourth minute and never being able to equalize it during the entire game. Even a win would not have been enough due to the much worse goal difference to overtake B71 Sandur, which in turn lost 2-1 to NSÍ Runavík and consistently finished eighth in the second half of the season.
