B71 Sandur or B71 Sandoy , full name Sandoyar Ítróttarfelag ( " Sports Club of Sandoy ") abbreviated B71 ( Bóltfelagið frá 1971 - "Ball Club 1971") is a Faroese football club based in Sandur on the island of Sandoy.
The association consists exclusively of amateurs and all offices are voluntary.
history
In Sandur there used to be a tradition of handball (especially of women), which fell asleep in the 1960s. After that, it was football that the youth became interested in.
Football was played on Sandur beach every evening from spring until late autumn. Participation in football in the Faroe Islands could only be dreamed of at this time, because the clay court was perhaps good enough for field handball, but not for regular football at club level.
There were several local derbies in the 1960s, with a selection from the northern fishing village of Skopun . The man behind this event was the seaman Steen B. Kristiansen, who also had experience in professional sports. The game was played in Sandur. There were no goals or the like, four stones were used instead. This local derby was repeated every year and met with great interest from the villagers. The fans from Skopun were brought in by truck - that was the time when there were hardly any cars on the Faroe Islands. For the game, Sunday school in Sandur Church has been brought forward to allow participation in both. The first game didn't even have football clothes. The game was played in street shoes, white shirts and synthetic pants. Later there were also soccer shoes and real jerseys.
At the end of the 1960s the construction of the central elementary school ( Meginskúlin ) for the whole island began. A sports field should also be built here. The founding of a real sports club was now obvious. On January 1st, 1970 the time had come and the Sand Sports Club was founded. In the summer of that year, the school's sports field was ready and was inaugurated in September with a game between HB Tórshavn and B36 Tórshavn . The Sandur sports club was then allowed to use the sports field as a club area. The club's first training session should take place on the Sunday after the inauguration. However, that September 27 was overshadowed by the plane crash the day before on the island of Mykines , in which eight people were killed, which left the entire country in mourning.
The following year the club registered for the Faroese football league - with a men's and a junior team. The first two league games in Sandur took place in April 1971. The boys won, but the men weren't up to HB's playing skills. At that time all the players came from Sandur, and that was the club's name: Sand .
In 1972, Sandoy's new school finally opened. Students from all over the island came from Skopun, Skálavík , Húsavík , Dalur and Skarvanes , and they were also interested in club football. That was the reason why the club was henceforth called B71 ( Bóltfelagið frá 1971 - "Ball Club of 1971") instead of sand .
After the championship in the first division could be celebrated directly as a climber in 1989, relegation followed immediately, in 1992 they returned to the upper class for six years. After two more short stays in the first division, the club played first class again in 2010. After two relegations in a row, B71 was in the third division again in 2014, which could be left in second place after a year. In 2015, the seventh place was taken, a year later the last place was relegated to the 2nd Deild . The first place resulted in immediate resurgence. In the first Deild , the eighth and seventh place was taken over the next two years.
