NSÍ Runavík , full name Nes Sóknar Ítrottarfelag ("Sports Club of the Municipality of Nes "), abbreviated NSÍ , is a Faroese football and handball club based in Runavík on the island of Eysturoy .

history

The NSÍ was founded on Sunday March 24th 1957 as the first sports club on the east bank of Skálafjørður . The name NSÍ was kept when the municipality was divided into two communes, Runavík and Nes. The first board consisted of the chairman Niklas Foldbo, vice Ib Haurits, treasurer Johanna Jacobsen and secretary Jastrid á Roykheyggi.

Ib Haurits was the most distinguished founding father. He was a baker from Tvøroyri and the only one on the board who had experience with organized sport. First and foremost, Haurits was familiar with handball , so NSÍ was initially known for its handball team, which was called Tjaldur ("oystercatcher", national bird of the Faroe Islands).

From 1960, other sports were added, for example badminton . NSÍ was successful in rowing and in 1962 all of the club's boats managed to win the Vestanstevna regatta .

In 1972 a soccer field was put into operation in Runavík and the following year the junior team was able to win second place in the final of the Junior Cup, the first soccer award for NSÍ.

A sports hall was added later and the við Løkin football field was given artificial turf.

The rowers became self-employed in 1998 as Kappróðrarfelagið NSÍ and the handball players founded Hondbóltsfelagið Tjaldur in the same year .

With more than 600 members, the NSÍ is one of the largest sports clubs in the Faroe Islands. In addition to the many active members, the association lives from the voluntary work of a large number of helpers. There is a support association and the Guliganz fan club .

In football, NSÍ was champion in 2007 and a total of three cup winners . 1986 LÍF Leirvík was defeated 3: 1, in 2002 HB Tórshavn 2: 1 and 2017 B36 Tórshavn 1: 0.
