The Faroese women's football championship in 2000 was held in the first Faroese league called 1. Deild and was the 16th season overall. It started on April 22, 2000 with B71 Sandur's game against B36 Tórshavn and ended on September 24, 2000.
The promoted AB Argir , B71 Sandur and EB / Streymur were the 18th, 19th and 20th participants in the top division, GÍ Gøta , SÍ Sumba and NSÍ Runavík and Skála ÍF returned after six, two and one year respectively. Master was KÍ Klaksvík , who could win the title for the second time. Defending champion HB Tórshavn finished in third place. On the other hand, GÍ Gøta, AB Argir, SÍ Sumba, EB / Streymur and B71 Sandur had to relegate after a year of first-class performance, and NSÍ Runavík and Skála ÍF also withdrew from the game after a year in the top division.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate increased to 5.88 per game, which after 2004 and 2003 meant the third highest average since the introduction of the 1st Deild in 1985 . The highest victory achieved KÍ Klaksvík by a 17-0 in the home game against Skála ÍF on the fifth day of the finals, which was also the highest-scoring game.

By increasing to eleven teams in the 1st Deild , the teams were initially divided into two groups. There, each team played twice against each other on ten or eight match days. The three teams with the highest points in each group played the champions in a final round, the three or two last-placed teams in each preliminary round group were relegated to the 2nd Deild . For the first time, qualification for the UEFA Women's Cup , which was played in 2001/02, was possible for the champions .
Season course
After KÍ Klaksvík won 8-0 at home against HB Tórshavn at the start of the final round , they lost 3-1 to NSÍ Runavík on matchday two , so that B36 Tórshavn and VB Vágur took the lead with four points each. After B36's 0-2 away defeat against KÍ, VB took over the lead with an 11-0 home win against Skála ÍF and was able to consolidate it with a 6-0 home game against KÍ Klaksvík. On the fifth matchday, however, this was lost after the 1: 4 home defeat against the direct pursuer HB Tórshavn. HB lost 3-0 at home to KÍ Klaksvík in the next game , so that VB was back in the lead, one point behind KÍ and HB. This situation persisted even after the eighth game day. In the penultimate round, KÍ Klaksvík took first place with a 5-2 home win against VB Vágur, HB Tórshavn followed level on points, but had a significantly worse goal difference. The last game day brought the decision. There HB lost 3-0 at home against VB Vágur, so that KÍ Klaksvík had to win. They did this with a 4-1 away win against Skála ÍF and thus celebrated the championship.
