The Faroese women's football championship in 1988 was held in the first Faroese league called 1. Deild and was the fourth season overall. It started on April 30, 1988 with GÍ Gøta's game against KÍ Klaksvík and ended on September 18, 1988.

Promoted NSÍ Runavík returned after two years in the top division. Champion HB Tórshavn , which could thus win the title for the second time. Defending champion B36 Tórshavn came in second. SÍ Sumba , however, had to relegate after two years of first class.

Season course

Championship decision

Both HB Tórshavn and B36 Tórshavn won their first six games. On the seventh matchday, the direct duel ended 1: 1. Both teams won their remaining games, so the second leg between B36 and HB on the last matchday should bring the decision. HB Tórshavn prevailed 1-0 and was thus able to successfully defend first place.

Relegation battle

NSÍ Runavík , SÍ Sumba and KÍ Klaksvík each lost their first four games. On the fifth game day KÍ won the home game against Sumba 1-0, on the sixth game day they played away against NSÍ 0-0, while SÍ Sumba lost again. The next game day Sumba was awarded the win against NSÍ at the green table , this should be the only win. With a 1-1 draw by NSÍ against EB Eiði on the ninth game day, both teams were tied again, in the next round NSÍ was able to gain some distance through a 0-0 draw against GÍ Gøta , as Sumba did not appear for his game and was therefore defeated without a fight . The next three games lost both NSÍ Runavík and SÍ Sumba, so the direct duel on the last day should bring the decision. Here NSÍ prevailed 3-0 in the home game, whereupon Sumba had to relegate.
