The Faroese women's football championship in 2002 was held in the first Faroese league called 1. Deild and was the 18th season overall. She should start on April 26, 2002 with the game of VB Vágur against HB Tórshavn , due to the withdrawal of VB it came on May 5 to the first games. The season ended on September 21, 2002.
The promoted GÍ Gøta and Skála ÍF returned after one year in the top division. Champion was defending champion KÍ Klaksvík , who could win the title for the third time in a row and for the fourth time overall. On the other hand, VB Vágur, who withdrew from the game after four years of first-class performance, and Skála ÍF after one year of first-class play had to relegate.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate improved to 4.94 per game. The highest victory achieved KÍ Klaksvík by a 13-1 in the home game against GÍ Gøta on the fifth match day of the finals, which was also the most scoring game.

In the 1st Deild , after the withdrawal of VB Vágur, each team first played twice against each other in a preliminary round on ten match days. The first placed received three bonus points for the final round, the second placed two and the third and fourth each one bonus point. The fifth placed also had to play a relegation game against the runner-up of the 2nd Deild to stay in the 1st Deild . The winner also received as the point-best team in the group stage in the second Deild a bonus point, participated in the final round of the first Deild part and played there with the other teams the champion from the last team in the final rose in the second Deild from . In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided.
Season course
Championship decision
Thanks to the three bonus points from the preliminary round and the fact that not a single game was lost in the final round, KÍ Klaksvík was in first place in this from the first to the last matchday. The strongest pursuer in the course of the season, B36 Tórshavn , was defeated 4-1 at home on the first matchday, the second leg on matchday eight ended with the same result. This also meant the decision of the championship in favor of KÍ.
Relegation battle
From the second game day on, Skála ÍF was continuously in last place in the finals. Only in the away game against HB Tórshavn on the sixth match day did they win the only point, they lost the first leg 0: 4. After the 2: 7 home defeat on the penultimate matchday against B36 Tórshavn, relegation was finally certain.
