The Faroese Women's Football Championship 2009 was held in the 1. Deild called first Faroese league and was altogether the 25th season. It started on April 1, 2009 and ended on October 3, 2009.
Promoted EB / Streymur returned after a year in the top division, the syndicate B68 Toftir / NSÍ Runavík was the 26th participant of this. Champion was defending champion KÍ Klaksvík , who could win the title for the tenth time in a row and for the eleventh time overall. However, B68 Toftir / NSÍ Runavík had to relegate after a year of first class.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 4.16 per game. The highest victory achieved KÍ Klaksvík by a 13-1 in the home game against Skála ÍF on the fifth match day, which was also the most scoring game.

In the 1st Deild , each team played four times against each other on 20 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was clear as champions of this league, the last team relegated to the 2nd Deild .

Championship decision
AB Argir was able to win the first seven games of the season, including the away game against KÍ Klaksvík on matchday two with 1-0. In the second leg in Argir, I separate both teams 1: 1. After AB's 0-0 away game against Víkingur Gøta on the following match day, KÍ moved up to one point and finally took the lead on matchday 12 in a direct duel with a 1-0 home win. By the end of the season, KÍ did not give up any further points and thus did not give up first place. The championship was finally secured on the penultimate matchday in a 4-0 away win against AB Argir.
Relegation battle
In the first seven games EB / Streymur remained without a point, only in the 1-1 away game against B68 Toftir / NSÍ Runavík on the eighth matchday this could be done, the first leg on the second matchday was still lost with 0-1. The first victory was achieved by EB / Streymur on match day in the 1-0 away win against Skála ÍF , so that the team was now level with B68 / NSÍ. In the direct duel on the twelfth matchday, EB / Streymur were victorious at home with 2: 1 and were thus able to set themselves apart. The next six games were all lost by both teams, however, on the penultimate matchday they met again and parted 1: 1. The last game day brought the decision. EB / Streymur lost in front of their home crowd with 1: 9 against Víkingur Gøta, which B68 Toftir / NSÍ Runavík could not exploit as they also lost 8 0: 8 in the away game against AB Argir.

In 2009/10, KÍ Klaksvík played as last year's champions in the qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Champions League . The first two games were lost 2-0 against HSC Montpellier (France) and 2-1 against FC NSA Sofia (Bulgaria), and the last game was a 4-2 win against ZFK Tikvesanka (Macedonia). The group was thus finished in third place.
