Streymnes [ ˈstɹɛmneːs ] ( Danish : Strømnæs ) is a place in the Faroe Islands on the east coast of the island of Streymoy . The place is in the Saksunardalur and with Saksun at the other end is the only settlement in this valley. The place is historically mentioned for the first time in 1584. Until December 31, 2004, Streymnes belonged to the now dissolved municipality of Hvalvík , the directly south adjoining place on the same stretch of coast along the sound between Streymoy and Eysturoy .

In Gjánoyri near Streymnes, Norwegians built a whaling station in 1893 , which ceased operations in 1927 .

The EB / Streymur football stadium is located in Streymnes .
