The Sunda kommuna is a Faroese municipality that stretches across the northeastern part of Streymoy and parts of the west coast and north of Eysturoy . Tjørnuvík , Saksun , Haldarsvík , Langasandur , Streymnes , Hvalvík , Hósvík and Nesvík on Streymoy and Oyri , Oyrarbakki , Norðskáli and Gjógv on Eysturoy belong to the municipality . In August 2016, 1721 people lived in the parish.

The community

The Faroese community takes its name from a sound called Sundini , which separates the two largest Faroese islands Streymoy and Eysturoy and whose left and right bank area is called Sundalag . At the same time, the bridge that connects the two islands is located here. On January 1, 2005 , the Sunda kommuna was merged with the municipalities of Saksun , Haldarsvík , Hósvík , Hvalvík (Streymoy) and Gjógv (Eysturoy).

Mayor ( borgarstjóri ) of the municipality is Heðin Zachariasen. The seat of the municipal administration ( kommunuskrivstovan ) is in Oyrarbakki . The place has meanwhile become the center of the Sunda kommuna . There is also a post office there.
