Hósvík [ ˈhɔusvʊik ] ( Danish Thorsvig ) is a place in the Faroe Islands on the east coast of the main island of Streymoy .
The former municipality of Hósvík ( Hósvíkar kommuna ) was identical to this one place and was merged with the Sunda kommuna on January 1, 2005 . The characteristic church of Hósvík is a concrete building from 1929. Before the bridge from Streymoy to the neighboring island of Eysturoy to the east was built in 1973 , a car ferry ran from here to Selatrað .
The Thor shipping company is a major local employer . She became known because her factory ship Athena was evacuated in October 2010 in the Irish Sea after a fire on board.
The place has its own rowing club called "Hósvíkar Róðrarfelag". The association has a total of four boats: a boat with six rowers ( seksmannafar ) as a crew, two boats for five rowers ( fimmmannafar ) and a boat for four rowers ( fýramannafar ), which is used as a sailing boat. The club was particularly successful in the mid-1980s. He won the Faroese championship in team rowing for men in six-person rowing three times in a row from 1985 to 1987 .
