The Faroese Women's Football Championship 2006 was held in the 1. Deild called first Faroese league and was altogether the 22nd season. It started on April 9, 2006 and ended on September 23, 2006.
The promoted HB Tórshavn and NSÍ Runavík returned after two and five years respectively in the top division, SÍ Sørvágur was the 24th participant of this. Champion was defending champion KÍ Klaksvík , who could win the title for the seventh time in a row and for the eighth time overall. On the other hand, SÍ Sørvágur and HB Tórshavn had to relegate after one year of first class.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate improved to 5.19 per game. GÍ Gøta achieved the highest victory with a 13-0 home game against HB Tórshavn on matchday 11 of the preliminary round, which was the highest-scoring game alongside the 12-1 between AB Argir and HB Tórshavn on matchday nine of the preliminary round.

By increasing to eight teams in the 1st Deild , each team initially played four times against each other in a preliminary round on 14 game days for one season. The four teams with the best points played the champions in a final, the four teams with the worst points in a final round the two relegated teams in the 2nd Deild . Half of the points from the preliminary round were transferred to the final round and rounded up. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided.

Championship decision
After KÍ Klaksvík did not give up a point in the preliminary round, they also led the championship round by a large margin from the start due to the bonus points they had taken over. The decision for the championship was made on the fourth match day in a 4-2 home win against the direct pursuer GÍ Gøta .
Relegation battle
HB Tórshavn only won the home game against EB / Streymur 1-0 in the preliminary round , the remaining games were all lost, including the two duels against SÍ Sørvágur 0-2 away and 0-3 at home. However, SÍ was only able to win 1-0 again in the away game against B36 Tórshavn and thus occupied the penultimate place in the relegation round due to the bonus points taken over, which was briefly achieved by the 3-1 home win against HB on the first day of NSÍ Runavík was surrendered after their 5-0 loss to B36. This changed, however, after the 6-0 home win by NSÍ against HB Tórshavn and the 0-2 away defeat of SÍ Sørvágur against B36 Tórshavn on the same day. The relegation of HB was already clear after the third matchday and the 0:10 home defeat against B36, with SÍ this decided on the fourth matchday when the second leg at HB Tórshavn was lost 5-2 and NSÍ Runavík closed the gap with a 2 : 1 home win against B36 Tórshavn to an unassailable nine points.
