Josef Greussing

Josef Greußing (born January 6, 1905 in Lauterach ; † July 28, 1971 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ), blacksmith and district secretary of the SPÖ. From 1945 to 1969 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Greussing attended the Lauterach elementary school and then completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith in Roggenbeuren from 1921 to 1923 . He subsequently worked as a blacksmith and from 1923 worked for the Austrian Federal Railways, where he was employed as a blacksmith and machine fitter. Between 1940 and 1945 he served in World War II and in June 1945 he returned from captivity. From 1945 he was then employed as District Secretary of the SPÖ Bregenz.

Politics and functions

Greussing joined the Social Democratic Party in 1923 and became a member of the Socialist Party Representation in 1932. From 1932 until the party was banned, he was the district chairman of the Bregenz Social Democratic Party, and after the ban in 1934 he became a member of the Revolutionary Socialists. In addition, he was a union member in the interwar period, from 1925 to 1934 as a functionary of the Free Trade Union of Austria and from 1925 was a functionary of the Socialist Youth Workers. In addition, he was involved as the regional chairman of the youth workers. Because of his political activities Greussing was imprisoned for a few days on February 12, 1934, and on October 7, 1937 he was arrested again for a scattering campaign for the illegal Revolutionary Socialists. However, he was acquitted on January 13, 1938 by the Feldkirch jury court for lack of evidence and released from prison on February 4, 1938.

After the Second World War, Greußing became district chairman of the SPÖ Bregenz, which he chaired until around 1964. He was also a member of the state party control of the SPÖ Vorarlberg at the state level and was a member of the Lauterach municipal council from 1950 to 1960. As a member of the electoral district of Bregenz , he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from December 11, 1945 to October 28, 1969, where he was a member of the economic and financial committee and the agricultural committee during his work in the state parliament.

Greußing was regional chairman of the ARBÖ Vorarlberg, member of the construction workers' union, member of the ASKÖ, member of the workers gymnastics and sports club, member of the workers cremation club "Flamme" and member of Naturfreunde Vorarlberg.

Private

Greussing was born the son of the driver Alois Greussing and his wife Franziska, née Kleiner. He married Gisela Fragner (1910–1986) on October 23, 1945 and had two sons, born in 1946 and 1948 respectively. He died in a traffic accident.
