B36 Tórshavn , ("B36" stands for Bóltfelagið 1936 "Ballverein 1936"), also known as FC Tórshavn , is a Faroese football club .

history

The club was founded on March 28, 1936. Besides HB Tórshavn , it is the second football club in the Faroese capital Tórshavn . Both share the home stadium Gundadalur .

B36 has been Faroese champion eleven times: 1946, 1948, 1950, 1959, 1962, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2011, 2014 and 2015. They were cup winners in 1965, 1991, 2001, 2003 and 2006. With around 500 members, he is one of the largest football clubs in the Faroe Islands.

As the 2005 national champion in the Formuladeildin (now Betrideildin ), B36 took part in the UEFA Champions League , which from the Faroese point of view has historic dimensions with a 3-0 and 2-2 win against the Maltese champions FC Birkirkara on July 11th and 19th, 2006: For the first time in the history of the Faroe Islands , a club made it to the second round on its own - against Fenerbahçe Istanbul . At the same time, the 3-0 marked the greatest Faroese success in European club football. In both games against Fenerbahçe, however, B36 had no chance; the team lost 4-0 in Istanbul (July 26) and 5-0 in Tórshavn (August 1). The B36's were able to keep a 0-0 up to the 44th minute.

B36 Tórshavn II

The second team took part in the top division for a year when this was still possible. However, all of the five games were lost. From 2013 the second team of B36 will play in the second division.

Women's soccer

The women's team at B36 has also been successful in the past. In the first season of the first Deild , the first title was won in the championship final with a 2-1 win against HB Tórshavn . The team was also very successful in the cup, where their first success came in 1991 with a 1-0 win against HB Tórshavn. The sixth and last cup victory was achieved in 2005, after the 2008 season the team withdrew from the first division after a total of four championships. In 2011, B36 took part in the top division again and was able to establish itself as the third force straight away, and a year later even made it into the runner-up. After the penultimate place in 2014, a syndicate with AB Argir was entered as AB Argir / B36 Tórshavn , which only lasted one year. Then B36 played independently in the first division again.
