The Faroese Women's Football Cup ( Faroese Steypakappingin kvinnur ) is the cup competition for women's football club teams and has been played since 1990.

development

After the 1st Deild started in 1985, it took five years for the first trophy to be played. In the first edition, 13 teams took part, three of which were seeded directly for the quarter-finals, the rest played the remaining five participants in a qualifying round. It was played exclusively in the knockout system , this mode was retained until 1992 with changing numbers of participants. From 1993 the semi-finals were played with a return leg, from 1996 to 1998, after two qualifying rounds, there was a group stage with two groups of four teams, for which five teams were directly qualified. The first and second placed qualified for the semifinals.

Current mode

The cup is played in a pure knockout system. The currently six participating senior teams, including a second division, will initially play against each other twice in groups of three. The first two in each group are qualified for the semi-finals, which are played with a return leg and in which the away goals rule is applied. If there is a tie after 90 minutes, there will be a 30-minute extension . If there is still no decision after that, a penalty shoot-out follows .

Worth mentioning

  • From 2010 to 2016, KÍ Klaksvík won the cup seven times in a row. In addition, the club made it to the cup final every year from 1999 to 2016.
  • So far, with ÍF Fuglafjørður (1993), only a second division team was in the final, which however could not win his game.
  • Five teams made it to the cup final at least once, but never won the cup. ÍF Fuglafjørður is the team with the most defeats in no single win, they lost a total of three times in the final.
  • The highest final win in 2004 was achieved by KÍ Klaksvík against EB / Streymur with a 15-0. The highest victory in the cup competition at all comes from NSÍ Runavík , who defeated AB Argir in a duel between two second division teams 22-0 in 1996 in the second qualifying round .
