Norwegian Women's Football Cup
The Norwegian Women's Football Cup ( Norwegian Norgesmestere Cup , or NM Cup for short ) is the cup competition for club teams in Norwegian women's football . The competition has been held since 1978. Record winners are Trondheims-Ørn SK and Stabæk FK with eight wins each, and the reigning cup winner 2019 is Lillestrøm SK Kvinner .
history
In 1978 the teams from IL i BUL and Trondheims-Ørn SK faced each other in the first final game . To date it was the only final that was decided on penalties. BUL won five of the first six competitions. In the eighties Sprint / Jeløy SK dominated the competition and won four cups in a row. Trondheims-Ørn SK repeated this feat in the 1990s. In 2003 there was the biggest cup sensation so far when the second division Medkila IL beat the runner-up Kolbotn IL 2-1.
The final took place at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo until 2005 . In contrast to the DFB Cup , the women 's final takes place on Saturday evening and the men's final on Sunday evening. The women's final has been held at Bislett Stadium since 2006, as the Norwegian Association believed that the lawn in Ullevaal Stadium was being overused. This decision was very controversial. The semi-finalists threatened a boycott if the decision is not reversed. Finally, the clubs gave in.
The 2006 final
In the final, the first division team Røa IL and the second division champions Asker SK faced each other. Røa went into the final as the clear favorite and won 3-2. Lena Mykjøland and Kristine Edner met twice for Røa, while Lisa-Marie Woods and Leni Larsen Kaurin were successful for Asker . For Røa IL it was the second cup victory after 2004. The final was watched by 8,900 spectators in the stadium and around 300,000 on television.
