Klepp Idrettslag (short: Klepp IL) is a Norwegian football club from the municipality of Klepp in Rogaland . Klepp is located 25 km south of Stavanger . The first women's football team plays in the highest Norwegian league Toppserien .
history
Klepp IL was founded on October 1st, 1919. The women's soccer team was a founding member of the Toppserien in 1987 and became its first champion. However, the double was missed. In the cup final they lost to Sprint / Jeløy SK 2-1. Two years later they reached the cup final again and beat Trondheims-Ørn SK 2-1. It was the last title for the club. In the 1990s, the club slipped and had to fight several times to stay in the league. In 1996 and 1997 Klepp IL reached the cup final again. Trondheims-Ørn SK had to be defeated both times (3-0 in 1996, 6-1 in 1997). After an interim high in the late 1990s, the club slipped back into midfield. In 2006 one was only penultimate, the worst place in the top series at all. Since the league increased, the team had to go into relegation and still managed to stay up.
The men's team from Klepp IL plays in the 4th division, the fifth highest division.
The game is played in the "Klepp Stadium". The club colors are green and white.
