Johann Friedrich August Kinderling (* 1743 in Magdeburg ; † September 28, 1807 in Calbe ) was a German philologist , Protestant pastor, song writer and source collector.

Children Ling earned his Master of Philosophy . From 1 768 he worked as a teacher and rector at Kloster Berge . In 1771 Kinderling became pastor in Schwarz and from 1774 worked as a deacon (second pastor ) in Calbe.

In addition, he devoted himself to researching the German language. With the scientific work on the purity of the German language and the means of transport of the same with a sampling of foreign words and other dictionaries from 1795 and the Lower Saxon or so-called Low German language, mainly up to Luther's time, along with a sampling of the most distinguished monuments of this dialect from the year In 1800 , Kinderling gained recognition in the professional world. His treatises on the history of the German language were among the standard works of the late Enlightenment. Together with the works of Jakob Friedrich Reimmann, they had an impact on later Germanistic science.

Kinderling collected medieval sources by copying them or having them copied. The collection of his manuscripts is now in the State Library in Berlin .

Kinderling also wrote hymns in the style of literary enlightenment. In his writings he emphasized the importance of literarily valuable children's songs and lullabies for the psychological development of children. As a sought-after linguist, he worked for the "Deutsche Gesellschaft zu Berlin" and gave lectures there on the history of the German language. Kinderling had compiled a handwritten history compendium about Calbe (contained in the so-called Kinderling manuscripts), which was published in 1906 under the title “A description of the city of Calbe a. S. from the years 1796-1799 ”was published in print. In the important German journal of the Enlightenment from and for Germany , Kinderling made the educated bourgeois world a. a. acquainted with Calbe.

Magister Kinderling was married and had several sons, one of whom, Johann Friedrich, was born in Calbe in 1775 and also became a pastor (in the Uckermark) and a writer. After his father's death he edited some of his not yet published works, e. B. "Considerations on the hymns to be improved".

In 1795, Kinderling der Sprachreiniger suggested the term arch heretic for the heresiarch .
