Ane Stangeland Horpestad (born June 2, 1980 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian football player . The central defender , who can also be used in defensive midfield , has been playing for Klepp IL in Rogaland since her youth . In 2006 she gave a one-year guest appearance at the top club Kolbotn IL , with which she won the championship and played international games in the UEFA Women's Cup .

After consistently good performances in the top series , the 166 cm tall player was appointed to the Norwegian national team for the first time on May 12, 1999 on the occasion of an away game against Italy . Since then she has been a member of the association's selection and took part in the 2003 World Cup. Second place at the European Championship 2005 in England is one of her greatest successes .

She led the squad of her team at the 2007 World Cup in China as captain. In the preliminary round games she managed one goal each against Canada and Ghana . At the end of the tournament, Ane Stangeland Horpestad was named as one of only two Norwegians in the All-Star team of the best players. Another high point of her career was participating in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , where Norway made it to the quarter-finals. So far, Ane Stangeland Horpestad has completed 106 international matches and scored five goals (as of September 1, 2008).

In addition to her sports career, she works in the marketing department of her club Klepp IL.
