Idrettslaget Sandviken (short: IL Sandviken) is a football club from Bergen (Norway) . The sporting figurehead of the club is the women's football team, which plays top series in the highest Norwegian league .

history

IL Sandviken was a founding member of the Toppserien in 1987. 1989 the descent had to be accepted. As soon as they were promoted again, they stormed into third place in the first season. To date, no top series climber has achieved a better ranking. In the same year, the club reached the cup final for the first time, but lost to the champions Asker SK with 8-0 goals. In 1995 they were again third in the championship and reached the cup final for the second time. This time they were more successful and beat Trondheims-Ørn SK 3-2 after extra time. A year later, IL Sandviken was runner-up. This ended the club's most successful period. In 1999 the second descent followed and Sandviken became an elevator club. After being promoted in 2001, you had to go straight back down after one season. The last promotion came in 2003 and IL Sandviken has since been able to assert itself in the league, even if you fight relegation every year. Nevertheless, the team had to accept relegation in 2007. In 2010, the team made it into the top series for the fourth time.
