Avaldsnes Idrettslag (short: Avaldsnes IL) is a Norwegian sports club from Avaldsnes . It was founded on June 16, 1937 and operates departments in men's soccer , women's soccer and handball . The first women's team has played in the top series since 2013 .
Women's soccer
In 2012, the women's soccer team reached the championship in the 1st Divisjon , the second highest division in Norwegian women's soccer, and was promoted to the top series for the first time. It is the first ever sports team from the island of Karmøy to play in a top national division. Before the new season, the team was then significantly strengthened. The national players Cecilie Pedersen (Norway), who had already played for Avaldsnes from 2009 to 2011, Guðbjörg Gunnarsdóttir , Hólmfríður Magnúsdóttir and Þórunn Helga Jónsdóttir from Iceland as well as Rosana dos Santos Augusto and Andréia Rosa de Andrade from Brazil were signed up. In the summer of 2013, the two German players Antonia Hornberg and Marie Pyko also moved to Avaldsnes. In 2017, the team won the Norwegian Cup for the first time when they beat Vålerenga Oslo 1-0 in the final . In 2016, 2017 and
2018, they reached the round of 16 of the UEFA Women's Champions League .
