Guðbjörg Gunnarsdóttir (born May 18, 1985 in Hafnarfjörður ) is an Icelandic football player .

Career

In the club

Guðbjörg started her career in the youth of Haukar Hafnarfjörður . She went through at Haukar all teams up to the C-youth, before she joined the C-youth of the city rival FH Hafnarfjörður at the age of 14 . She made her debut at the age of 15 in 2000 for FH Hafnarfjörður in the Pepsideild kvenna , the highest Icelandic women's league. Guðbjörg played in the senior team of Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar 28 games in two seasons before moving to league rivals Knattspyrnufélagið Valur . With Valur she was Icelandic champion in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008 and in 2006 she won the Icelandic cup competition. For the 2009 season Guðbjörg moved to the Swedish first division club Djurgården Damfotboll, where she was appointed team captain in 2012.

After four seasons and 39 games for Djurgårdens IF DFF , she moved to Norway in the top series for newly promoted Avaldsnes IL . The goalkeeper played 21 games for her Norwegian club before signing with the German women's Bundesliga club 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on December 12, 2013 . After only four first division appearances for Potsdam, she returned to Norway in the summer of 2014 and joined the first division club Lillestrøm SK Kvinner , where she initially only played the role of substitute for goalkeeper Nora Gjøen until the end of the season .

International

Guðbjörg made her debut in the Icelandic national team on March 13, 2004 against Scotland . So far, she has completed 21 international matches. Since then she has been one of the constant performers of the Icelandic national team . In 2009 she took part in her first tournament with Iceland and played in a group game at the 2009 European Women's Football Championship before the team was eliminated. In the summer of 2013 she took part in a tournament for the second time. She represented the injured goalkeeper Þóra Björg Helgadóttir at the 2013 European Women's Football Championship . Guðbjörg played in all four games of the Icelandic national team in the tournament, including the 4-0 defeat in the quarter-final against the Swedish national soccer team . The Swedish press voted her one of the best players at the EM 2013.
