KÍ Klaksvík , full name Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag ("Klaksvík Sports Club") is the most successful Faroese football club in women's football .

history

While the main club was founded as a tennis club in the city of Klaksvík on August 24, 1904 and played its first football match in 1911, the women's football team did not join them until 1985. In the same year the 1st Deild , which made it possible for women to participate in a championship, was founded. Since the existence of the first division, KÍ was the only team not to suffer relegation.

While the second place in Group A could be occupied in the first season, the fall to the last place in the table with zero points followed by 1987. Only thanks to an increase in the league from seven to eight teams KÍ was spared from going into the second division. After two fourth places in a row, he was runner-up in 1991 and 1992. This could be repeated in 1996. In the same year KÍ moved into the cup final for the first time, but lost there to HB Tórshavn with 1: 3. In 1997 the first championship title was finally achieved. From 2000 to 2016 the team had won all championships of the 1st Deild and has been the record champion since winning in 2006. Ten times (2002–2006, 2008, 2010–2012, 2016) KÍ remained undefeated, with four times it managed to win the championship without losing points. In 2003 16 wins, in 2006 14 wins and in 2002 and 2004 10 wins each in as many games were achieved. In 2003 the women from KÍ also scored the most goals in the first division with an average of 9.31 (149 goals in 16 games).

Furthermore, the team has been Faroese Cup winners 14 times, the first time in 2000. Until the 2017/18 season, KÍ was also the only Faroese team in women's football that could participate in the European Cup, making it the only European team ever to play in played in the UEFA Women's Champions League every season (until 2009 UEFA Women's Cup).
