UEFA Women's Champions League 2016/17
Valery Lobanovsky Stadium

The 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League was the seventeenth draw of the European championship competition for women's football clubs and the ninth under this name. 61 teams from 49 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first qualifying round matches on August 22, 2017 and ended with the final on May 24, 2018, which was played at the Valery Lobanovsky Stadium in Kiev .

The defending champions were the women of Olympique Lyon , who were able to prevail in the final against the women of VfL Wolfsburg and defend the title.

Teams

61 clubs participated in the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League, setting a new record number of participants. This included the champions and runners-up from the twelve strongest nations as well as the national champions from 37 other UEFA members. The UEFA five-year rating was used to determine the top twelve national associations . The national champions of the twelve strongest associations - including the defending champion - as well as the runners-up of the nine strongest national associations received a bye and did not intervene in the competition until the sixteenth finals. The remaining 37 national champions and the remaining three runners-up had to take part in a qualifying round.

mode

First, the 40 clubs from the worst-placed associations played the participants in a qualifying round for the main round, in which 21 other clubs were added. The ten group winners and the best runner-up in the group qualified for the next round. When placing the best runners-up in the group, the game against the respective bottom group was not counted. The games of the main round up to and including the semi-finals were played in home and return legs. The team that scored more goals in both games advanced to the next round. If both teams scored the same number of goals, the number of away goals decided. If the number of away goals was the same, the second leg was extended. If both teams scored the same number of goals in extra time, the away team won due to the more goals scored away. If no goals were scored, the match was decided on penalties. The final was decided in one game. In the event of a tie, extra time followed and then possibly a penalty shoot-out.
