UEFA Women's Champions League 2018/19
The Estadio Anoeta in San Sebastián hosted the final

The 2019/20 UEFA Women's Champions League was the 19th draw of the European championship competition for women's football clubs and the eleventh under this name. 62 teams from 50 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first games of the qualifying round on August 7, 2019 and should end with the final on May 24, 2020, for which Viola Park in Vienna was planned.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the quarter-finals were initially postponed in mid-March, followed by the semi-finals and final a few days later.

On June 17, 2020 the mode for the last three rounds was announced:

Accordingly, the quarter-finals took place on August 21st and 22nd, the semi-finals on August 25th and 26th and the final on August 30th, each in just one game. The venues for the final tournament are the Spanish cities of San Sebastián with the Estadio Anoeta and Bilbao with the San Mamés . The final was played at the Estadio Anoeta .

The defending champions were the women of Olympique Lyon , who also won the title in the 19th edition of the competition and thus became European champions for the fifth time in a row and for the seventh time.

Teams

62 clubs from 50 nations take part in the 2019/20 UEFA Women's Champions League. This includes the champions and runners-up of the twelve strongest nations as well as the national champions of other UEFA members. The UEFA five-year rating was used to determine the top twelve national associations . The national champions of the twelve strongest associations - including the defending champion - as well as the runner-ups of the eight strongest national associations received a bye and only intervened in the sixteenth-finals in the competition. The remaining national champions and the remaining four runners-up had to first take part in a qualifying round.

mode

First, the clubs from the worst-placed associations play the participants in a qualifying round for the main round, in which 22 other clubs are added. The games of the main round up to and including the semi-finals are played in the first and second legs. The team that scores more goals in both games will advance to the next round. If both teams score the same number of goals, the number of away goals decides. If the number of away goals is the same, the second leg is extended. If both teams score the same number of goals in extra time, the away team wins due to the higher number of away goals scored. If no goals are scored, the match will be decided on penalties. The final will be decided in one game. In the event of a tie, extra time follows and then, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out.
