Men's soccer

For a long time the Piteå IF football team did not appear nationwide. In 1993 she rose to the third division Division 2 Norrland , in which she initially played against relegation. 1996 moved the team as a season runner behind Lira Luleå BK in the promotion round to the second division. There she failed after two defeats at Visby IF Gute . In the following year, as a season winner before Skellefteå AIK, the direct promotion to the second division succeeded.

In the second division season 1998 Piteå IF get five wins this season. Thus, the team occupied a relegation place behind Gefle IF , who placed himself on the relegation place, and had to be relegated as twelfth in the table with Ludvika FK and IFK Luleå . As fourth in the table, the direct re-promotion was missed and in the following year the team slipped as penultimate in the fourth division. After the prompt resurgence, the club stayed in the third division until 2005, but was classified fourth class in a league reform. There the team missed relegation, but rose again straight away.

Women's soccer

In 1985 Piteå IF established a women's football department. Initially, the team played lower class, before they succeeded for the first time at the end of the 2008 season promotion to Damallsvenskan. In the elite series, however, she missed relegation and had to relegate directly with fellow promoted Stattena IF . As relegated, the team dominated their second division season with seven points ahead of Vasalunds IF and rose directly back up.
