UEFA Women's Champions League 2010/11
The Munich Olympic Stadium - the venue for the final

The 2011/12 UEFA Women's Champions League was the eleventh draw of the European championship competition for women's football clubs and the third under this name. 54 teams from 46 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first games of the qualifying round on August 11, 2011 and ended with the final on May 17, 2012 in the Munich Olympic Stadium . Olympique Lyon defended their title with a 2-0 win against 1. FFC Frankfurt in front of a record crowd of 50,212 spectators.

Attendees

46 national champions and the runners-up from the eight strongest national associations took part in the 2011/12 UEFA Women's Champions League. The UEFA five-year rating was used to determine the eight strongest national associations . The 14 national champions of the strongest regional associations as well as the eight runner-ups received a bye and only intervened in the sixteenth-finals in the competition. The runners-up had to qualify in the preseason. The remaining national champions first had to take part in a qualifying round. For the first time, Albania and Latvia entered teams for the competition.

mode

First, the clubs from the 32 worst-placed associations played 10 participants in a qualifying round for the main round, in which 22 other clubs were added. The games of the main round up to and including the semi-finals were played in home and return legs. The team that scored more goals in both games advanced to the next round. If both teams scored the same number of goals, the number of away goals decided. If the number of away goals was the same, the second leg was extended. If both teams scored the same number of goals in extra time, the away team won due to the more goals scored away. If no goals were scored, the match was decided on penalties. The final was decided in one game. In the event of a tie, extra time followed and then possibly a penalty shoot-out.

qualification

The qualification draw took place on June 23, 2011 at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The eight mini-tournaments were held between August 11 and 16, 2011. The eight group winners and the two best runners-up in the group qualify for the round of 32, where the seeded teams and the runner-up will intervene in the competition. When determining the best runners-up, the game against the respective bottom group will not be taken into account. The clubs from Ireland and Belarus have now reached the second round.
