Rayo Vallecano de Madrid SAD , or Rayo Vallecano for short , is a football club from the Vallecas district of Madrid . It was founded on May 29, 1924 as Agrupación Deportiva El Rayo and currently plays in the Segunda División .

The club is considered a typical "elevator team" in Spain, especially in the last twenty years the club has seen many ups and downs. The club's greatest success is its entry into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 2000/01 season .

The club's fans include the anti-fascist group “Los Bukaneros” as well as the Spanish punk group Ska-P , who wrote one of the club's anthems with the song “Como un Rayo”. Due to this clear political orientation of the fans of the club, Rayo Vallecano can be compared to FC St. Pauli in Germany.
