Iriney Santos da Silva , short Iriney (born April 23, 1981 in Humaitá ) is a former Brazilian football player . Due to his long experience as a player in Spain, Iriney now also has a Spanish passport.
Player career
Brazil
Iriney started his career as a footballer in his Brazilian homeland at Nacional Manaus in the 1998/99 season. He then played for Manauense and for two years at the top Brazilian club AD São Caetano . He left the club in 2002 to take his chance in Europe.
Rayo Vallecano
In August 2002 Iriney signed a contract with the Spanish first division club Rayo Vallecano . The time after the change was initially disappointing for him. On the one hand, he was used in only 14 games during the entire season, on the other hand, his new club rose from bottom of the table. The following year Iriney was a regular in the Segunda División and played in 36 games. But for his team it went down a league again and so Rayo was passed from the first to the third division in just two years. Despite everything, Iriney stayed with the Madrid suburban club, but left it after a failed attempt to get promoted again.
Celta Vigo
In the summer of 2005, Iriney moved to the first division promoted Celta Vigo . With the Galicians he won a regular place in the Primera División and reached the UEFA Cup with his team . In the 2006/2007 season, Iriney scored his first goal in the Primera División in a 1-1 away match at Racing Santander . But again the Brazilian got relegated with his team to the Segunda División . In the preparation phase it came to a scandal because Iriney refused to go to the 2nd division despite a valid contract. So it happened that the midfielder at Celta was removed from the squad, but was not given clearance for another club.
The last few years
After six months of waiting and u. a. After the failed move to Racing Santander , the Brazilian signed a contract valid until summer 2009 with newly promoted UD Almería in early 2008 . He made his debut on March 16, 2008 in a 2-2 draw against FC Barcelona . After a year in Andalusia, he joined Betis Sevilla in 2009 . For the southern Spaniards, he was on the pitch in a total of one hundred league games in three years. A year-long stopover at Granada CF was followed in 2013 by moving to the British island for English second division club Watford .
