In 2002 AD São Caetano almost won the Copa Libertadores , the South American counterpart to the UEFA Champions League . The first leg was won 2-1 at Club Olimpia in the Paraguayan capital Asunción . The second leg was lost in front of a home crowd with the same result. The team from Paraguay finally secured their third success in the history of the competition with 4-2 goals on penalties.
