Marcos António Senna da Silva (born July 17, 1976 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian- Spanish soccer player who became European champion in 2008 with the Spanish national team .

society

Senna started his career with several Brazilian clubs. Among other things, he played for the traditional club Corinthians , with which he was club world champion (without a presence in the final). After leaving AD São Caetano , he played for Villarreal since 2002 . However, the beginning of his career in Europe was a bit slow: first two knee injuries put him out of action for months, then in 2004 he was banned for two months because of a corticoid positive doping test . However, Senna struggled back and was one of the top performers on the team when Villarreal made it to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2005-06 and became Spanish runners-up in the 2007-08 season . In 2008 he was also named the best Spanish player of the year. On April 27, 2008 he scored "the best goal of his life" against Real Betis after a shot over half the field. At the end of the 2011/12 season Senna rose with Villarreal in the Segunda División . Nevertheless, he remained loyal to the club. In the 2012/13 season he succeeded in resuming an immediate ascent with the Yellow Submarine . He then announced his departure from Villarreal after eleven years of membership. With 363 competitive games he was the club's record player at that time.

On June 13, 2013, he moved to New York Cosmos in the USA .

National team

Marcos Senna took on Spanish citizenship in addition to his Brazilian citizenship in 2006 , so that he could take part in the 2006 World Cup with the Spanish national soccer team . Senna took on an important role for the Spanish national team under coach Luis Aragonés , as he represented the physically strong protection of the rather lanky offensive Xavi , Andrés Iniesta , David Silva and Cesc Fàbregas . Senna won the EURO 2008 with the Selección . He was not nominated for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .

Others

Senna's cousin is Marcos Assunção , who u. a. played for AS Roma and the Brazilian national soccer team.
