Daniel González Güiza [ daˈnjɛl gonˈθa.lɛθ ˈgwi.θa ] (born August 17, 1980 in Jerez de la Frontera , Spain ), also known as Dani Güiza , is a Spanish football player .
Career
In the club
At the beginning of his career, Daniel Güiza played for the club in his hometown Deportivo Xerez . For the Spanish second division side , he scored a goal in 16 games in his first season in 1998/99. He then signed a contract with the first division club RCD Mallorca , where he should slowly be introduced to professional football. In his first season with the Mallorcans he was loaned to Dos Hermanas CF and played frequently for the B-team of the RCD Mallorca until 2002. For the first division team of the RCD Mallorca, with which he was under contract until 2003, he came to a total of seven league appearances.
For the 2002/03 season he was loaned from the first division competitor Recreativo Huelva and from FC Barcelona B in the second half of the season. For the 2003/04 season, Ciudad de Murcia signed the striker, who saved his team twice from relegation to the Segunda División with 38 goals in 81 games. After two years in the second division, he switched to the Spanish first division club Getafe in 2005 . With the club he qualified at the end of the 2006/07 season by moving into the Spanish Cup final for the 2007/08 UEFA Cup .
However, Güiza returned to RCD Mallorca before the 2007/08 season , where he was then top scorer in the Primera División with 27 goals.
For the 2008/09 season , Güiza moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul for a club-internal record transfer fee of 15 million euros . He signed a four-year contract until the end of May 2012. He scored his first goal in a competitive match for Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the third round of the 2008/09 Champions League qualification to equalize 2-2 against Partizan Belgrade . His first Champions League game, in which he also scored a goal, he played against FC Porto .
In August 2011 Güiza moved back to Getafe FC in the Primera Division . In the second season at the Madrid suburb club he was not convinced and moved on loan to Malaysia to Johor FC .
In the national team
Due to his strong performance as a scorer during the 2007/08 season , Daniel Güiza was nominated for the first time for the Spanish national team on November 9, 2007 for the qualifying games for the 2008 European Championship against Sweden and Northern Ireland . On November 21, 2007, he played his first international match in a 1-0 win against Northern Ireland. Daniel Güiza scored his first goal for the Selección on June 18, 2008 in the preliminary round match of the UEFA Euro 2008 against Greece . In the semi-final of the European Championship in 2008, he scored the 2-0 win against Russia and sealed Spain's entry into the final .
Daniel Güiza was substituted on twice at the Confed Cup 2009 in South Africa . In the game for third place against South Africa , he contributed two goals to the 3-2 win ( n.V. ) of his team in the final minutes of regular time .
His last international match so far was on March 3, 2010 in a 2-0 win in a friendly against France . In May 2010, the attacker was appointed to the provisional squad for the 2010 World Cup , but was removed from the final squad in the further course of preparation for the tournament .
