Raúl , full name Raúl González Blanco , (born June 27, 1977 in Madrid ) is a Spanish football coach and former player. The long-time captain and record players from Real Madrid won three times the Champions League . Raúl was considered a dangerous, dribbling, light-footed and very fair player who could be used in attacking midfield as well as on the left or right wing .

Club career

As a teenager, Raúl first played for San Cristóbal de Los Ángeles , a team in the Los Ángeles district of Madrid , where he lived with his family. At the age of 13 he moved to Atlético Madrid . With the U-15 from Atlético Madrid, Raúl was then champion, but President Jesús Gil dissolved the entire youth department for cost reasons. Raúl then moved to local rivals Real Madrid in the summer of 1992 , where he played for the U-16 ( Cadete A ), U-18 ( Juvenil B ) and U-19 ( Juvenil A ). In 1994 he moved to the C team , where he scored 13 goals in the first seven games.

On October 29, 1994 Raúl celebrated his debut in the Primera División at the age of 17 years and four months under coach Jorge Valdano . He was Real Madrid's youngest player in the league until Martin Ødegaard's first game on May 23, 2015. In Madrid he soon became a symbol and the legitimate successor of Emilio Butragueño , whose shirt number he took over. Raúl scored seven goals in 29 games in his first season and became the Spanish champions. He grew to become a key player with a considerable share of Real's great successes ( Champions League victories in 1998 , 2000 and 2002 ; championship titles in 1997 , 2001 , 2003 , 2007 and 2008 ; World Cup victories in 1998 and 2002 ). He was also top scorer in 1999 and 2001 (Spanish: Pichichi trophy ) of the Primera División and received this title in 2000 and 2001 in the Champions League. At the World Cup final in Tokyo in December 1998 Raúl scored against CR Vasco da Gama to make it 2-1 for Real Madrid. Over time, this goal became one of Raúl's most famous goals and was christened “Gol del Aguanis”. Currently (10 December 2014) he is the third most successful goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League with 71 goals behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo . From Fernando Hierro's departure in 2003 until he left in 2010, he was the captain of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid did not win any major titles between 2003 and 2007 and were sometimes heavily criticized by the media and fans. Raúl in particular was made responsible for the form low and was only present as a substitute player at times. For the 2006/07 season Fabio Capello was hired as a coach, under which Raúl initially received a regular place. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he was in good shape again under coach Bernd Schuster , his club finished first in the table with 47 points never reached and won the championship with 85 points, to which Raúl with 18 goals and strong Contributed significantly. National team

Raúl was in the squad of the Spaniards for the 1996 Olympic Games , in which he was eliminated with his team in the quarter-finals. Raúl was born in the Villaverde district in the south of Madrid and grew up there in the Colonia Marconi district , a settlement built for employees of the Marconi company . His first club was CD San ​​Cristóbal de Los Ángeles , also based in Villaverde. His father Pedro was a fan of Atlético Madrid, where his son also began his career.
