Career

society

Gorostiza began his career in 1927 at Arenas Club de Getxo . After a brief interlude in Galicia at Racing de Ferrol , the Basque signed a contract with Athletic Bilbao for the 1929/30 season and marked the most successful decade in the club's history there. Together with his congenial strike partner Bata , Gorostiza quickly reached top form and immediately secured the title of top scorer with a total of 19 goals . He also won the Copa del Rey and the first Spanish championship in the club's history with his team . This so-called double was successfully defended in the 1930/31 season . While two runner-up championships followed in the league, two more cup victories were celebrated in 1932 and 1933. Further championship titles followed in 1934 and 1936 .

Since the game was set during the Spanish Civil War , Gorostiza joined the Basque football team in 1937 and then played with this games in Europe and Mexico.

After ending the civil war, he returned to Spain and signed a contract with FC Valencia . Here, too, the successes were not long in coming. In 1941 the club won the Spanish Cup for the first time in the club's history, and in 1942 and 1944 the first Spanish championship titles.

In 1946 Gorostiza finally moved to FC Barakaldo for one season before ending his career as a player-coach at CD Logroñés .

National team

Gorostiza made his debut in the Spanish national team on June 14, 1930, as part of a 2-0 defeat by Czechoslovakia . Until his last appearance on December 28, 1941 against Switzerland , he played a total of 19 international matches and took part in the 1934 World Cup.
