Waldo , real name Walter Machado da Silva (born September 9, 1934 in Niterói ; † February 25, 2019 ) was a Brazilian football player .

Career

To date, Waldo is the record scorer at Fluminense Rio de Janeiro with 314 goals in 403 games. In the service of Fluminense he celebrated winning the Torneio Rio-São Paulo in 1957 and 1960 and won the Brazil Cup in 1960 . After joining the Spanish Primera División in 1961, he was the first Brazilian to wear the Valencia CF shirt . With him began a very successful time for the club. In 1962 and 1963 , the club won the Messestädte Cup (forerunner to the UEFA Cup), with Waldo becoming the top scorer. A possible triple triumph only failed in 1964 in the final against Real Saragossa. In the 1966/67 season, Waldo won the Pichichi trophy , which is awarded to the Spanish top scorer, with 24 goals , and in the same year celebrated victory at the Copa del Rey with Valencia . Waldo scored 117 goals in 216 league games for Valencia CF.

Waldo ended his career in 1971 after a year at Hércules Alicante .

National team

Due to his move to European football, Waldo only played five times for the Brazilian national football team , all games in 1960. In these five games he scored two goals.
