Rutgerus Johannes Martinus "Ruud" van Nistelrooy ( Anglicized from Nistelrooij ; born July 1, 1976 in Oss , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch football player and today's coach . The striker comes from the youth of FC Den Bosch , for whom he made his debut in the Dutch second division . After a season at SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie , van Nistelrooy moved to PSV Eindhoven in 1998 . At PSV, van Nistelrooy was the top scorer in 1999 and 2000 as well as the best player in the Eredivisie and 2000 and 2001 Dutch champions. After the second championship in 2001, van Nistelrooy moved to England for Manchester United at the age of 25 , where he developed into one of the best strikers in the world under Alex Ferguson . With United, van Nistelrooy won the English championship in 2003 and was top scorer in the Premier League that same year . He was also the top scorer of the Champions League in 2002 , 2003 and 2005 . After the 2006 World Cup , van Nistelrooy moved to Spain for Real Madrid . With Los Blancos he was Spanish champions in 2007 and 2008 and top scorer in 2007. After van Nistelrooy was rarely used in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons due to injury, he moved to the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV in January 2010 at the age of 33 . After a year and a half, he returned to Spain and joined Málaga FC , where he retired after a season at the age of 35. Van Nistelrooy is the only player alongside Luis Suárez to have been the top scorer in three European leagues. He is also one of the top scorers in the Champions League with 56 goals , although he never won this competition.

Van Nistelrooy played 70 games for the Dutch national team from 1998 to 2011 and scored 35 goals, making him one of the top scorers in the Elftal . After van Nistelrooy had not yet been nominated for the 1998 World Cup and was injured for the 2000 European Championship and the Netherlands had not qualified for the 2002 World Cup , he first took part in a major tournament at the 2004 European Championship . Van Nistelrooy led the Elftal with four goals in the semifinals and was elected second-best scorer behind the Czech Milan Baroš (5) as well as the all-star team of the tournament. He then took part in the 2006 World Cup (one goal) and the 2008 European Championship (two goals). For the 2010 World Cup , however, he was no longer nominated.

The beginnings

Van Nistelrooy was born in Oss and grew up in Geffen ( Oss ). In his early youth he played for the amateur clubs “Nooit Gedacht” in Geffen and “RKSV Margriet” in Oss. He began his professional career in 1993/94 as a midfielder with FC Den Bosch in the second Dutch division, the Eerste Divisie . After four seasons at Den Bosch, he moved to SC Heerenveen in 1997 , where he became a striker and scored 13 goals in 31 games.

PSV Eindhoven

One season later, in 1998, the then 22-year-old moved to PSV Eindhoven . The transfer fee of 12 million guilders (5.4 million euros ) was the highest amount ever paid for a player transfer between two Dutch clubs. Van Nistelrooy scored 31 goals in 34 games in his first season for PSV and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year . In his second season in Eindhoven (1999/2000) he scored 29 goals, although he only played 23 games due to an injury. In 2001, van Nistelrooy moved to Manchester United for the then record British sum of 28.5 million euros . Alex Ferguson had wanted to sign him the previous year, but van Nistelrooy had suffered a serious knee injury and was also out for the 2000 European Football Championship . During his first season with Manchester United, he scored 23 goals in 32 games. He scored at least one goal in eight consecutive games, which was a new record. He scored ten goals in the UEFA Champions League this season.

In the 2002/03 season he was the top scorer in the Premier League with 25 goals and was English champion with Manchester United. In the European Cup he scored 14 goals, a club record for Manchester. Due to an injury, he was out for much of the 2004/05 season, but was still the top scorer in the Champions League with ten goals.

In May 2006 van Nistelrooy was retired from ManU coach Ferguson. According to Ferguson, there had been several incidents during training that worried him and led him to make this decision. The press is aware that van Nistelrooy escaped from a team meeting and drove home after Ferguson told him that despite Wayne Rooney's injury , he would only sit on the bench.

During his time at Manchester United, van Nistelrooy was nicknamed the "goal machine" because he made almost every chance in the penalty area to a goal and scored 95 goals in 150 league games for Manchester. He is also called "Van the Man".

real Madrid

Van Nistelrooy for Real Madrid (2008)

Van Nistelrooy made his comeback against Deportivo Xerez in September 2009. He set up one goal and scored another one just before the end. However, more injury breaks followed. In January 2010 Real Madrid no longer planned with him and gave him clearance for a free transfer.

However, although the contract of van Nistelroy only ran until summer 2011, HSV rejected the Dutchman's request and forced him to fulfill the remaining six months of his contract. Thereupon van Nistelrooy announced that he would play for another club after his contract expired in summer 2011.

He made his last game for HSV on May 14, 2011 on the last matchday of the 2010/11 Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach , when he came on for Zé Roberto in the 68th minute and Änis Ben-Hatira's goal to make it 1-1 Final result prepared.
