The Premier League Player of the Season ( German  Premier League Player of the Season ) is an annual award for the best football player of the season in the English Premier League , which has been awarded since the 1994/95 season . At the beginning the winner was determined by a jury. A shortlist is currently being made available for voting on the Internet and combined with the result of the jury. The current title holder is Belgian Kevin De Bruyne .

The first winner in 1995 was striker Alan Shearer . Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player to date to have won the title twice in a row. In addition to Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and Nemanja Vidić were honored twice with the award. The players Kevin Phillips (2000), Thierry Henry (2004), Cristiano Ronaldo (2008) and Luis Suárez (2014) also won the Golden Shoe for the most successful goalscorer of the season that year. Cristiano Ronaldo was also named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2008.
