Willy Brokamp (born February 25, 1946 in Kerkrade ) is a former Dutch professional footballer.

Career

Brokamp played for the South Limburg club MVV in Maastricht in the 1960s and early 1970s . Originally he played for a smaller Kerkrad club, RKVV Chevremont , which was known for its very good youth work at times . During his long time as a professional footballer at MVV, the fast winger was nicknamed “de blonde pijl” (the blonde arrow). This is a sign of Brokamp's level of fame at the time when he was one of the top places in the Dutch Footballer of the Year election several times. He also distinguished himself as a striker and goalscorer and ended several seasons among the top goalscorers in the honor division . In 1973 he was together with Cas Janssens ( NEC Nijmegen ) top scorer, each scoring 18 goals.

In 1974 Brokamp dared to move to the top European club Ajax Amsterdam . There de blonde pijl was also called de Kerstman (Santa Claus), also a reference to his flowing, light- blonde hair at the time. In two years Brokamp came to 48 games and 20 goals for Ajax. In 1976 he returned to MVV and ended his career there in 1978.

National team

Brokamp played a total of six games in the Dutch national football team ( elftal ) and was able to achieve an average of one goal per game.

further activities

Brokamp was also professionally active off the field during his time as a professional football player. In Maastricht , before the end of his career, he was known as the operator of a restaurant at the local Vrijthof , the Café Aux Pays-Bas . This was followed by other restaurants in Maastricht. Brokamp later moved to the village of Vlaamse Kanne on the southern edge of Maastricht . He has been running the inn In Kanne en Kruike there ever since .
